The Narrowest House In London For Sale For More Than a Million dollars

The narrowest house in London, with a width of 1.7 meters, is up for sale for more than a million dollars and is located between a hair salon and a doctor's office.

This intriguing five-story building in the Shepherd's Bush neighborhood was originally a Victorian hat shop with warehouses and lodgings on the upper floors. In a nod to its past, the house retains a small window adorned with a bowler hat lamp.

This wondrous, blue-fronted, and barely noticeable property is valued at 950,000 pounds ($1.3 million).

For David Myers, director of sales at the agency responsible for selling this building, this price is explained by the fact that the house, built at the end of the 19th or early 20th century, is a unique part of London's history. "It's part of the magic of London," he told AFP.

The dimensions of the rooms vary greatly from corner to corner, and if the kitchen in the basement is narrower, it leads to a dining area twice the size of the kitchen. A 2.5-meter wide garden is located behind glass windows.

The ground floor, where the old store-turned-entrance used to be, and the first floor, are of the same size. On the first floor, in addition to a bedroom and an office, there is a balcony with a stunning view of the rooftops and chimneys of West London.

On the second floor, there is a bathroom and shower room, and on the third floor is the master bedroom, which is accessed through an opening in the floor to make use of the space.

For David Myers, this home is suitable for a young couple or one person. Thanks to its unique features in terms of its construction history and the eclectic innovations of the interior, the house, according to him, can attract art buyers or bohemians.

"There is no other house in London that is 1.7 meters wide," Myers said. There are other houses of five floors, but no house is characterized by this unique space,” adding that “all the previous owners left their own mark on it.”

The price of a home is prohibitive for most British residents, with an average home price of £256,000, but it is typical for the London properties market.

"It's more expensive because it has everything you need," Myers said. From a point like Shepherd's Bush, you can be in the heart of (London) in 10 to 15 minutes.”

unique and special

If a buyer were to be found, the home would have more than doubled in value since 2006 when it sold for £488,500 ($671,000), but David Myers thinks it's worth more because of its out-of-the-ordinary design.

"In many parts of London people use the price per square meter as a benchmark for property value, but it doesn't always work that way," he said. When you have a property this unique, the price should reflect on it.”

According to the real estate agent, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused many people, especially families, to leave London in order to buy larger properties, which could hinder the sale of this particular property.

"In a situation like the outbreak of Covid, there are not many buyers, there are even fewer buyers for such unique and distinctive properties," he explained.
